A $9.7 billion fortune, a spectacularly messy divorce, and one very large yacht. David Geffen‘s love life might have another chapter.
If your ex came back into your life, you might expect a text message, an awkward coffee invitation, or perhaps an ill-advised late-night phone call. David Geffen apparently has a different idea of rekindling an old flame: take the yacht out.

The 83-year-old billionaire is reportedly spending time with his 33-year-old ex-husband Donovan Michaels again, just months after their divorce was finalized. And considering how spectacularly their relationship fell apart, this is not exactly the reunion anyone would have predicted.
The pair were reportedly spotted together aboard Geffen’s 454-foot superyacht, Rising Sun, during an October outing. Their June appearance on the same vessel had already raised eyebrows, but the latest reunion has apparently given industry insiders more reason to speculate.

“The heart wants what the heart wants,” one source told Page Six Hollywood.
Apparently, it also wants access to a floating palace.
The breakup was anything but a quiet exit
For anyone who missed the original drama, Geffen and Michaels’ marriage ended amid a particularly ugly legal dispute.
Michaels filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Geffen in July 2025, alleging that the billionaire subjected him to painful cosmetic procedures, including laser hair removal and dental treatments. His complaint also accused Geffen of exploiting his personal vulnerabilities and exposing him to recreational drug use aboard the billionaire’s yacht.
The lawsuit further alleged that Michaels’ decision to pursue sobriety and participate in Alcoholics Anonymous created tension between the two men.
“Geffen did not want a healthier Michaels. He wanted control and submission,” the complaint alleged.
Geffen denied the allegations, while his attorney Patricia Glaser previously called the lawsuit “pathetic.”
Michaels dropped the lawsuit in October 2025, and the two reached a confidential settlement the following month. Their divorce was finalized in April 2026.
That’s quite a journey from marriage certificate to courtroom paperwork. And now, apparently, back to spending time together.
David Geffen’s Second Chance Comes With a Billionaire-Sized Guest List?
Geffen and Michaels reportedly met through SeekingArrangements.com, and their relationship came with a 50-year age difference and a level of wealth that makes most dating-app success stories look rather modest.
Geffen’s estimated $9.7 billion fortune is certainly not an insignificant detail, but the more interesting part of this potential reunion is how quickly the story has turned around. Last year, their relationship was being discussed through allegations and legal filings. Now, sources are suggesting that the former couple may have found their way back into each other’s company.
There’s also the matter of Rising Sun, which has hosted guests including Oprah Winfrey, Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez, Bob Iger, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump.
In other words, even the guest list comes with its own Wikipedia rabbit hole.
Neither Geffen nor Michaels has confirmed a romantic reconciliation, so we’ll have to wait before declaring this a full-blown second honeymoon.
Still, if the reports are accurate, their relationship has already survived a marriage, a lawsuit, a settlement, and a divorce. Perhaps the next chapter is simply learning how to enjoy a yacht outing without involving the legal department.
For the rest of us, getting back with an ex might mean swallowing our pride and sending a risky text. For these two, it apparently means returning to a 454-foot boat.
