HBO Max’s En El Camino should be on your next “To Watch” list.
There is something about a lonely highway, a truck full of testosterone, and two men who definitely should not be falling for each other. Enter En El Camino, Mexico’s new HBO Max drama that is already turning heads for its steamy chemistry, rugged setting, nudity, and unapologetically messy romance.
The series premiered on HBO Max in Mexico on September 4, 2026, and has yet to make its U.S. debut. But judging by the buzz surrounding its decidedly adult scenes, plenty of viewers are already eager to hitch a ride.
Welcome to the Truck Stop
En El Camino, which translates roughly to “On the Way” or “On the Road,” drops viewers into the hyper-masculine world of long-haul truckers in northern Mexico. At the center is Veneno, played by Víctor Prieto Simental, a young man who survives along the highways by selling goods and offering companionship to truck drivers at roadside stops. Then he meets Muñeco, played by Osvaldo Sánchez, a married, heterosexual truck driver and father of two.
Naturally, this is where things get complicated.
What begins at a roadside restaurant develops into a relationship neither man appears prepared for, forcing them to confront desire, loneliness, danger, and the possibility of a life they never expected.

Yes, It Gets Very Steamy
Let’s address the truck-sized elephant in the room: En El Camino is not exactly shy.
The show has been generating online attention for its raw and explicit approach to intimacy, with scenes that reportedly leave very little to the imagination. In particular, there’s a scene of Veneno giving Muñeco head in the truck and then proceeding to masturbate afterwards while Muñeco watches him. The viral part? You can see Veneno’s entire length being stroked on screen. Now, whether that is a prosthetic or not remains to be a mystery.
But reducing the series to its sex scenes would be missing the point.

Underneath all that heat is a story about two people finding connection in an environment where vulnerability isn’t exactly encouraged. The rugged setting and traditionally masculine world surrounding Muñeco make the romance even more complicated, particularly as his relationship with Veneno collides with the life he has already built.
More Than Just Highway Heat
The appeal of En El Camino isn’t simply watching two gorgeous men discover that chemistry can be inconveniently powerful (and hot). It’s the emotional mess underneath it.
Veneno and Muñeco come from dramatically different circumstances, yet both are searching for something that feels increasingly difficult to find: genuine human connection.
And apparently, Mexico may have found its next big international drama along the highway.
En El Camino has reportedly been selected as Mexico’s entry for the 2027 Academy Awards, giving this steamy road trip considerably more prestige than anyone might expect from its thirst-trap reputation.
For now, American viewers will have to wait for their turn.
But if the early buzz is anything to go by, En El Camino may be one road trip worth taking.
