Here’s a sad one for you food lovers and adventure seekers. CNN has just confirmed the death of chef and traveler Anthony Bourdain. The host of the show Parts Unknown, was found unresponsive in his hotel room in France by friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert. Bourdain was 61. No confirmation has been made about the exact cause of death, but it is an apparent suicide.

The two chefs were in France filming an episode of the beloved show.

In a statement, the network shared:

It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.

Bourdain was author of numerous celebrated books and winner of almost every food award in existence. He was held in high regard within the food industry and admired by fans who appreciated his raw and real exploration of uncharted areas of the world. He starred in the Emmy-award winning No Reservations on the Travel Channel for nine seasons. He began on Parts Unknown in 2012. Bourdain was a huge ally for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2014 he was part of the Human Rights Campaign for marriage equality.
