After dominating at The Grammy awards and just days after giving us pink tulle fantasy in her Oscars Giambattista Valli gown, Kacey Musgraves opened up RodeoHouston with songs from her award-winning Golden Hour among other of her well-known country tracks.
But just as the current reigning queen of country was slaying her performance, she pulled out a heartfelt performance of Como La Flor by the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla and the crowd erupted with excitement. Selena, who was killed by Yolanda Saldivar at the age of 23 in 1995, gave her final performance at the RodeoHouston 24 years ago.
Right before the song, Kacey shouted to the audience:
I love the queen Selena just as much as you do!
Here’s the full performance:
It was a breathtaking moment for those in the audience who decades later still feel the pain of the Selena’s life cut too short.
The performance was brought a flood of memories to Selena’s sister, Suzette, who took to Instagram to thank Kacey for the tribute to her sister with one of her biggest hits.
Just another reason to fall in love with Kacey Musgraves.
