We just heard about Margaret Cho’s new web series, and we have to check it out.
Comedian Margaret Cho has been an open advocate for LGBTQ rights and visibility for years (before it became cool in Hollywood). That’s mostly because she’s an Asian, bisexual, female comedian who wants to see representation for all kinds of people.
Now, Cho is bringing it forward and helping to create visibility herself through a new web series.
Cho is the executive producer to an upcoming web series titled Mercy Mistress. The series will follow a queer Asian-American BDSM sex worker in her daily life.
More specifically, Indiewire says the series focuses on “a queer, first-generation, Chinese-American professional and lifestyle dominatrix working in Manhattan.”
Mercy Mistress is based off of the life of BDSM practitioner Yin Quin, who has written several articles for magazines and online sites about her career. On top of that, she is both working on a memoir “of violence and magic,” and running the production of this new web series.

For Yin Quin and Margaret Cho, this series isn’t meant to be about the fantasy of BDSM like Fifty Shades of Grey, but true representation of BDSM sex work and the lives that people live around it.
“It’s not about some weird dude with a helicopter, you know? Those kinds of images don’t really ring true in my world of kink,” Cho told IndieWire.
“I think [‘Mercy Mistress’] is actually very true to the lifestyle and what people really do,” Cho added, “which is much sexier, and a lot more fun, and much more relatable and interesting.”
