Jan Hooks was my original funny lady on Saturday Night Live. With her Tammy Faye Bakker and Sweeney Sisters acts, she made me look forward to SNL. Her Jessica Hahn along side the Church Lady was epic. She did several other characters and skits that will bubble up from my memory over the weekend. Oh yes! The Calvin Kleen commercial embeded below. It was perfection.
She was part of a great cast of characters. TMZ writes, "Jan was part of the 'SNL' cast from 1986-91 … the same time as Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey and Dennis Miller … " She did an excellent job holding her own with the boys.
She did many other shows, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Designing Women, The Simpsons, 30 Rock, and even a role in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Resources say she lost her battle against a serious illness.
