On the first episode of my podcast, The Fayme Report, I sat down with Alaska Thunderfuck who opened up about whether or not drag can be co-opted, her thoughts on the controversial Silky Nutmeg Ganache and who she is rooting for on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Spoiler alert: she pleads the fifth for that one.
On drag being co-opted:
“Drag can’t be co-opted. It’s sort of like drag can’t be co-oped because as soon as you think you know what it is, drag has evolved and changed and becomes new and so it evolves and has like a fail safe built into it. I don’t think it can be like you said. I think it’s great that there are more eyes on it and more people know what the fuck it is. That’s always good.”
On Silky Nutmeg Ganache:
“I think she is very polarizing. Whenever I ask crowds how they feel I get a strong reaction no matter what that is. So yeah, I like that she gets a strong reaction out of people and I don’t think we have ever seen a character like her before, who has such an awareness of being in a reality show that is going to be on TV. She is drunk on that feeling. We’ve never had that before and it’s exciting. She is very much herself and very unique.”
On who she is rooting for this season:
“I don’t know. I’m not going to pick someone. I don’t know how it’s going to shake down. I don’t know what’s gonna happen tonight or the next few weeks. I think the crowd response has been really huge for Yvie Oddly. A’Keria Chanel and Brooke Lynn Hytes represent drag perfection and so I don’t now how it’s going to go. It’s a great group of girls. It’s hard to go after a season of All Stars because you’re seeing people performing at such a level where every runway, every person is perfect down to the details. You’re really looking for slight flaws to put people in the bottom because everyone is performing so great. So to be a regular season of Drag Race right after that, is kind of hard. And I think they kind of got… beat up for it a little bit when this season first started.”

On collaborating with Lady Gaga:
“I am avail. I would love to. I think she is so talented.”
