SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Police in San Francisco responded when shots rang out at Civic Center Plaza. It happened around 6 p.m., during crowded gay pride Pink Saturday celebrations.

Police said the altercation was between two groups of teenagers. Six of them have been detained. It is still not certain whether the clash was gang-related.

It's sad, but it seems these days when you go to ANY large city event, expect a death or two.  Every time I go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, there seems to be a death just about every night.  One night, 4 people were shot just a block away from where I was watching the parade.  Large celebrations bring in groups from all over and what usually occurs in New Orleans, and what some sources are saying happened in San Francisco, is that gangs meet and decide to end their discussions with bullets. There is no tie to the cause of the celebration, but just that there is a large event and more people will be there.  Sometimes it's inner city gangs arguing with outlying gangs visiting their turf.

We hope the 64-year old vendor does make a full recovery and we hope this is the last report of violence at a pride event this year, related or not to our celebration.
