Since we found out one our favorite cult classics from the new millennium Mean Girls was hitting the Broadway stage as a new musical, we’ve almost been too gay to function!
And now the cast of the much anticipated production has finally been revealed. You won’t recognize anyone from the film, but there are new plastics in town that will hopefully make us fall in love with the characters over again.
The Mean Girls Musical book is by none other than the hilarious Tina Fey, who created the North Shore High School world. Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond, has composed the original music with lyrics from Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde). Direction and choreography will come from Casey Nicholaw (Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, Spamalot).
African foreign exchange student turned Cold hard plastic, Cady Heron, will be played by Erika Henningsen who has captivated audiences as Fantine in Les Miserables
Fugly slut queen of the Plastics Regina George will be played by Taylor Louderman who is currently on Broadway in Kinky Boots
Drug pushing Ms. Norbury will be played by Kerry Butler who was Penny Pingleton in the original cast of Hairspray and has also appeared in Les Miserables and received a Tony Award nomination for Xanadu
The girl with the 5th sense, Karen Smith will be played by Kate Rockwell who has appeared in Bring It On and Legally Blonde
The daughter of the inventor of Toaster Strudel, Gretchen Wieners, will be portrayed by Ashley Park from previous productions of Mamma Mia! and The King and I
Goth wannabe Janis Sarkisian (Ian) will be played by Barrett Wilbert Weed who has appeared in Heathers: The Musical
Pink shirt-wearing, queer accomplice, Damian Hubbard will be played by original Book of Mormon cast member Grey Henson
The Mean Girls musical will have its world premiere on October 31st in Washington, D.C. with a run through December 3rd. Dates for New York City are still being decided.
