Reality TV has a way of giving us things we never asked for and then somehow convincing us we absolutely needed them. The Traitors has apparently decided that murder, betrayal and psychological warfare are not enough. No, we also need shower footage.

The franchise has developed a very specific tradition of cutting away to a contestant scrubbing up while everyone else is discussing who should be murdered. It is technically just background footage, but when the camera suddenly finds a handsome man covered in soap, the murder mystery can briefly become the least important thing happening on screen.
And now The Traitors US has added Mark Zgoda to the ever-growing shower club. The latest moment has already gotten fans talking, with one Reddit discussion devoted entirely to the question we have all apparently been forced to ask: can The Traitors please stop pretending these shower cutaways are purely about strategy?

The Shower Cutaway Has Become The Traitors’ Tradition
The funniest part is that the shower footage actually has a practical purpose. The Traitors uses plenty of atmospheric footage, or B-roll, to fill out scenes and create the feeling that contestants are living their lives inside the castle. These sequences can include everything from nighttime routines to random activities around the property.

But then there is the editing. Someone is being discussed as a possible murder victim, the music gets dramatic, the castle gets ominous—and suddenly we are watching a man wash himself. That contrast is what makes the whole thing so wonderfully ridiculous.
The UK version has already given viewers several memorable shower moments, with Matthew Hyndman among the contestants who have found themselves caught in the franchise’s increasingly recognizable sudsy tradition.
Matthew even joked about the experience, calling it “proof the standards are slipping.” At this point, the Faithfuls may need to investigate the production team.

The Traitors US moment has added another male contestant to the franchise’s increasingly suspicious collection of shower B-roll. And, naturally, fans noticed.

One Reddit discussion about the scene quickly turned into exactly the sort of conversation you would expect when The Traitors puts a shirtless man in a shower while everyone else is busy plotting murder. The attention was less about strategy and more about Mark himself.
At this point, the formula is practically its own character:
Contestant gets discussed → ominous music plays → contestant appears doing a completely normal activity → contestant happens to be extremely shirtless.
Coincidence? The producers would probably say yes. Our eyebrows remain unconvinced.
Stephen Libby Understands the Pressure
Stephen Libby has also spoken about the infamous Traitors shower tradition, admitting he initially agreed to film one before changing his mind after meeting his very attractive castmates.
As he put it, “I can’t do a shower scene, I’m really sorry.” Honestly, fair.
Sometimes the castle’s biggest psychological challenge isn’t figuring out who the Traitors are. It’s realizing you’re surrounded by people who make you reconsider your decision to take your shirt off on camera.
Maybe the Shower Is the Real Faithful

The murder isn’t happening in the shower. The conspiracy isn’t happening in the shower. Nobody is secretly exchanging coded messages through a bottle of body wash. It’s just a man showering. And yet, somehow, we are watching.
Why Does the UK Get More Shower Scenes?
It does raise one genuinely curious question: why does the UK version seem to have accumulated so many more memorable shower moments than the US version?
There doesn’t appear to be a publicly confirmed explanation that the UK deliberately films more shower footage. It could simply come down to editing choices, the particular casts, or which moments happen to become memorable with viewers.
Still, the difference is hard to ignore. The UK version has turned shower footage into something approaching a recurring Traitors tradition, while the US version has been a little more selective—at least until Mark showed up.
Maybe the American producers finally realized what the British producers have known all along: sometimes the easiest way to keep viewers invested in a murder mystery is to give them a shower scene.

At this point, perhaps the biggest mystery on The Traitors isn’t who the Traitors are. It’s whether Mark has officially opened the floodgates for The Traitors US.
