Another same-sex couple was mocked and verbally attacked for existing on public transport. This time, the couple in question were artist Carla Gallen and her girlfriend (whose name was not shared). The two were taking the underground train in Barcelona when Gallen gave her partner a kiss. On passenger saw this and was not happy.

As Gallen shared on social media, “On Wednesday afternoon, my partner and I suffered homophobic aggression on the underground. A woman insulted and attacked us for kissing.”

Gallen then shared a video of the stranger calling her and her partner words like “d***s” and “c***suckers.”

After Carla started recording the scene, the woman starts yelling “D***, what are you going to do with a video?”

The woman then accuses the couple of having no respect for her and says that she has a gay brother of her own. Except, she calls her own brother a f*****.

“You disgust me, I have a gay brother, but he doesn’t kiss in front of me because he respects me. If you want respect, you also have to respect me,” she screams.

During the altercation, the couple speak to each other in a different language, which prompts a scoff from the woman. One of the lesbian women then calls her homophobic and racist, to which she replies, “Yes! So what?”

The only two other passengers to intervene during this fight, according to Metro, were an elderly Muslim woman wearing a veil and a man who eventually separated the woman from the couple.

“Unfortunately, we live in a society that still tells us that verbal violence and physical aggression (mild) are not sufficient reasons to report. This is the structural basis of violence, to normalize “minor” aggressions to naturalize homophobia,” tweeted Gallen after the attack.

She concluded simply and profoundly, “We will not be silent.”

According to Gallen, the incident has been reported to Catalan police and the Observatory against Homophobia. In addition, the Public’s Prosecutor’s Office of Hate and Discrimination has been notified of the altercation. The angry woman has yet to be identified.
