Looks like Tony-winner Ben Platt has some true fans in South Bend, Indiana.
South Bend mayor and Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg recently had a presidential campaign fundraiser in Los Angeles. The event was held in the Hancock Park-area at the home of Kevin MacLellan, NNC Universal Chairman of Global Distribution, and his partner Brian Curran. Many big names showed up to the event such as Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Sean Hayes, Chelsea Handler, Jason Bateman, West Hollywood mayor John D’Amico and more, according to the Hollywood Reporter. All of whom paid $250-$2800 to attend the event.
To uplift the function, Ben Platt, who released his debut album as a singer earlier this year, performed “Somewhere” from celebrated musical, and future Stephen Spielberg-directed movie remake, West Side Story.

After Platt’s performance, Buttigieg came on to the stage and praised the performance and performer. Buttigieg added that he’s familiar with Platt from his work on the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen (thanks to his husband Chasten blasting the music around the house).
Or as Pete specifically said, “Thank you for that. We don’t get that at every fundraiser. You sound even better here than you do on the speakers in our house when Chasten fires them up.”

Buttigieg is very busy on the campaign trail and specifically on the fundraising side of it. He recently appeared at a luncheon in West Hollywood and a fundraiser at the home of Ease Entertainment’s Mike Rose and Ruben Rodriguez.
