The latest trailer for The Witcher have us hoping that things are finally spinning in Henry Cavill’s favor.

Ever since he hit it big as Superman in Man of Steel, fans of Henry Cavill have hoped to see more for the actor. But unfortunately, the actor’s been having a tough time in Hollywood ever since. Not only did Warner Bros. eternally push off a Man of Steel 2, but the DC Cinematic Universe, with a Justice League at its center, was rushed and exploded on impact. And while DC is trying to pick up the remaining DC pieces (Harley Quinn, another Batman reboot, Aquaman 2, and Wonder Woman 2), Henry Cavill has been left in the dust.

With his role as Superman up in the air (though allegedly, it’s at its end), Cavill needs a new big-name project to work on. And he’s hoping that Netflix’s The Witcher is that big-ticket.

Netflix is currently trying to make The Witcher the next big show. Or, at least, as close as the company can get. Truthfully, they may have created a hybrid program that’s somewhere between Game of Thrones and Fifty Shades of Grey. And since both properties were majorly successful at their start but dwindled towards their ends, maybe The Witcher can pick up the pieces.

The Witcher is a fantasy series that originated as a novel series. It was then adapted into a video game series and now a streaming show. The story follows Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles with his place in human society. His adventurer’s life and mystical powers curse him with the life of a lone wolf. That is, until he finds his path merging with a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret. The three then try to navigate the violent and political climate of their magical land.

Will Cavill, along with other actors Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Emma Appleton and Adam Levy, be able to make this show a hit? We’ll find out on December 20th when The Witcher airs on Netflix. Until then, watch the trailer before to see if you’d be interested.

  1. Here’s a way to have a worthy project for any actor: go and work in the theater! What a concept. Find a play or musical in genuine need of revival (something done originally before 1980) and book a Broadway engagement! Actors are only truly worthy after they’ve done 8 shows a week!
