We've been able to celebrate same sex marriages in the past, but 2016 has to be the year of the gay weddings here in the United States. Last year, SCOTUS solidified that Love is for everyone. It seems that this year, gay marriages are more … well … marriages. We don't have to wave the flag higher than normal or shout from the rooftops in defiance, but instead, we can just say love and not follow it with a speech or political blurb.
Here's one such celebration that occurred this year.
As a star on the iconic show Mad Men, it was always a given that Kit Williamson was going to wear something pretty sharp on his wedding day.
But we literally can’t cope with he and new hubby John Halbach’s matching Ted Baker suits and shoes, in these newly-released pictures from their recent(ish) nuptials in the picturesque Keys View in Joshua Tree National Park.
The beautiful ceremony, which took place on February 27 before 48 guests overlooking the San Jacinto Mountains and the Salton Sea, was followed by a reception at a private home in Palm Springs, California.
Kit told Gay Star News: ‘We wanted to keep things really intimate, so we decided to limit the guest list to however many friends and family we could fit on a bus to the desert, because we wanted to get married at Keys View in the middle of Joshua Tree National Park.
‘Afterwards, we held the reception at 436 Olancha, a beautiful mid-century house in Palm Springs, and John and I ended the night by jumping in the pool! It was an incredible day and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.’ – www.gaystarnews.com
Unfortunately, I was wrong. I need to rescind my previous statement. We still may need to have a little political side comment with our weddings.
Kit and John – costars on the Emmy-nominated Eastsiders – are using the announcement of their wedding to highlight the anti-gay bill that passed the senate yesterday in Kit’s home state of Mississippi, allowing clerks to deny same-sex marriage licenses and private businesses to refuse services.
He added: ‘Planning the wedding, I was struck by just how vulnerable you are. You have to rely on so many vendors and government employees and you may not know any of them personally.
I wouldn’t want to buy a cake from a bigot anyway, but I can think of nothing more traumatizing than having the happiest day of your life tainted with bigotry. It saddens me to think that it’s now legal to treat gay couples in Mississippi like second class citizens.’ – www.gaystarnews.com
We wish the best to you both, Kit and John. And thank you for sharing your special day with us.
If you wish to have your video or wedding shared with all to see, shoot me an email at adupuis@instinctmagazine.com . Maybe I can post it for all to see some Wedding Wednesday.
