When news about the Will and Grace revival hit the interwebs, probably everyone was wondering “How the hell is that going to work?” When we last saw the modern day Lucy & Ricky we were force-fed their quick story wrap-up by flashing forward nearly twenty years in the future. It was a bit of a stretch to see the best friends we have come to know and love be complete strangers with one another and then randomly come back into each other’s lives. We get it—it needed to end. But how is this new jump starting of the series going to reflect the original show’s ending?
Well—it won’t! Rejoice!
According to Entertainment Weekly, Max Mutchnick, co-creator and executive producer of the show, has broken the silence about the difficulty of coming up with a formula for the revival.
We spent most of our time trying to figure out what would be the way to make the show the best version of itself coming back after 11 years. That finale really caused us a lot of grief. You write a finale because a show is over. You never think that it's coming back again.
So what does this mean? Here’s what Mutchnick’s partner-in-crime David Kohan had admitted was the main problem.
When the decision was made to bring the series back, we were like, well, we left them with kids, right? And if they have children, then it has to be about them being parents, ‘cause presumably it would be a priority in their lives. And if it wasn't a priority in their lives, then they're still parents, they're just bad parents, right? We frankly did not want to see them being either good parents or bad parents. We wanted them to be Will and Grace.
Great! Will and Grace will be the single, childless friends we all know and love once again. How do we know they’re single?

Its television, these things happen. Characters get dropped left and right and we wake up to a Deus ex machina reality.
Looks like a lot of things will be back to normal at 155 Riverside Drive. I’m sure Karen will still be dodging Stan and Rosario will still be under her employ. And Jack—well, he must still be ‘Just Jack’.
