It’s official—Will & Grace is coming to an end…again! It’s a sad day for W&G fans as NBC has announced that the revival of the popular show will come to an end after their upcoming third season. The final season, which will debut in 2020 on NBC, will be the show’s overall 11th season reports Variety.
The show returned to television after the 2016 election and was celebrated for staying true to the same tone that fans loved (despite completely ignoring the original ending). Sadly, the show lost almost half of its viewers in the 18-49 viewing demographic last season. Over the course of the show, Will & Grace has earned almost 300 nominations and 94 wins for major awards, including 30 Golden Globe nominations and seven GLAAD awards for best comedy.
NBC Entertainment co-chairmen George Cheeks and Paul Telegdy said:
When NBC had the opportunity to reconnect this amazing cast and creative team, we jumped at the chance. The impact and legacy of Will and Grace simply can’t be overstated, both as a true game-changer in the portrayal of the LGBTQ community and as one of the finest comedies in television history. A huge thank you to Max, David, Jimmy and a cast that is second to none for their brilliance over an incredible run.
W & G co-creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan said:
We think of the Will and Grace reboot episodes the way Karen Walker thinks of martinis — 51 is not enough, 53 is too many. That is why, after consulting with the cast, we all have decided this will be the final season of Will and Grace. In 2016, Bob Greenblatt came to us with the idea of doing a 10-episode reboot of Will and Grace. They say you can’t go home again, but we did. And now, three seasons and 52 episodes later, we’re even more proud of something we never thought we’d get a chance to do again. We have had a once-in-a-lifetime experience twice. And for that, we owe a double debt of gratitude to NBC, this show’s supportive and caring home since day one.
The revival of Will & Grace comes during a new Golden age of television when streaming has taken over the daily lives of viewers and reboots and revivals of cult classic programs such as Roseanne (The Conners), Gilmore Girls, Full House (Fuller House), Charmed, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (Queer Eye) have dominated programming. With the loss of Will & Grace, however, television watchers will bid farewell to massively successful show that made us fall in love with the lives of Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen, portrayed by Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally. The show symbolizes many things for the LGBTQ+ community and their representation on television.

This modern-day I Love Lucy, as it was once coined, will remain an iconic show–even after this iteration of the story. Now, as we await the finale of Will & Grace, there are many questions that fans must be having: Will we see Will & Grace finally find their own respective loves? Will Jack’s marriage survive and will his acting career ever take off? Will Karen ever be—sober? So many possibilities, but let’s just hope they ended it correctly this time…none of this flash forward business.

They killed an excellent show that probably would have lasted 20 years, but they killed it….
Then with all the remakes and reboots (as if they had absolutely no fresh ideas) they dig up the “Will and Grace” grave to squeeze out a single penny… And with that being bad enough they half assed it…. (Like “Roseanne”) and expected the same result of the original run….
It was a re-boot that never really matched the wit and cleverness of the original writing and dialogue. It was great to see the gang back together again, but the comedy seems to fall flat when compared to the reruns of the original seasons. The final show of this latest season (Jack’s airport wedding) had a series finale feel to it, and I was hoping that the producers would just let W&G go out on that festive note. All good things must come to an end, and nobody wants to see a good thing dragged out beyond its life expectancy.

I loved this show. It has brought me some very happy moments not to mention some quotes me and my friends still use. Sorry to see it go.
