Would The #MeToo Movement Happened If Hillary Won?
The Nation Revolted Seemingly Against Donald Trump!
Have you been a part of the biggest evolution in Hollywood yet? You may been familiar with the #MeToo movement, started by Civil Rights Activist, Tarana Burke, who made the effort to raise awareness for sexual assault in society. The #hashtag stirred a buzz on social media as women and men alike shared their allegations of sexual assaults. At first, it appeared, everyone was too fearful to name their alleged predators. Eventually, movement would hit Hollywood, where people such as Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, and Matt Lauer would be taken down in a painful, slow burn.
I champion the aforementioned Burke, but am incredibly inspired by a long-time favorite actress, Rose McGowan, and men who have shared their stories of inappropriate, same-sex diddling in Hollywood such as Anthony Rapp, James Van Der Beek, and Terry Crews. Whether you like it or not, the movement is still not going away. The scroll has been unleashed and it is essentially endless. Names continue to be added as if Santa is writing his naughty list all over again. At this point, it’s almost laughable how many powerful men – in Hollywood alone – have been leading a circus behind closed doors. The city of angels certainly has demons in disguise, but that may be something a handful of us already knew.
However, I began to wonder: Would the #MeToo movement truly been successful if Hillary Clinton won the 2016 Presidential Election? My logic is that women (men – all of us) were furious at the nasty words that came out of Donald Trump’s mouth towards his opposite gender. Trump’s election began the first Women’s March – which drew millions of supporters and has led to viral videos including a speech performed by Ashley Judd which I still cry over to this day. Women – and their allies – were pissed. Once again, a powerful man has gotten away with ruthless words and nature, only to be labeled as “locker room talk” or whatever B.S. the media tried pushing on us. It was ridiculous. Women fought back. Women who have been held under the man’s thumb now had the upper hand – for what was possible. The #MeToo movement has made an impact in society, which may be caused by Trump’s win over a female.
Yet, I beg the question: If Clinton won, would we still have cruel men in power? Please hear me out before you light your torches and come running down my street. It is a well-known fact that Weinstein, who suffered the largest blow from the #MeToo movement, was a huge contributor to Clinton’s presidential campaign. They even have a plethora of photographs together and we’re essentially gal pals. As much as one can say someone didn’t know about Weinstein – eh, I’m not certain I believe it. I work in Entertainment and previously had. If a mailroom clerk allegedly knows all about Weinstein, people in power definitely did. Someone in the Clinton camp must’ve had a suspicion at the very least, but was it swept under the rug? For clarity: The Clinton campaign has donated Weinstein’s contributions to charity. So, it’s not like we can shake our finger at the camp, but believe you me, I’m still giving a side eye.
Don’t get me wrong, I voted for Clinton so I wouldn’t have to suffer through the last year. But, I cannot help but sit here and ask that if she was in power – if women felt like they had won – if the Hollywood Moguls who donated to her campaign saw victory – would any of the #MeToo movement have gotten the fuel to light society on fire? Or would it have been nothing but flint and a stick?

The #metoo movement probably would not have happened if HC won, but you would not have had he crass comments coming from the White House that certainly have fueled the anger. Some of the cases may have come to light, namely Harvey Weinstein, but I think we would have seen fewer public cases.

You "beg" the question? No…you don't. You ask the question. The situation/circumstances – it, as it were – begs the question.
Also, while absolutely no fan of #PresidentBoneSpurs, "all of us" were not furious at his nasty words. That is the whole point! Had "all of us" been furious, he would have had far, far fewer popular and Electoral College votes and lost in a landslide.
