There’s a new Broadway show based on the songs of angst by Alanis Morissette that defined an entire generation of the 90s. I was one of those who found solace and support in her lyrics as she tormented an ex-boyfriend with words about hoping he feels it every time she scratches her nails down another man’s back, and how he would never find a girl like her, bold enough to “go down on you in a theater!”
Wooooo, yes Lawd, Alanis turned it out with her bold feminist stance on love and relationships. Then too, let’s not forget the masterpiece “Ironic” that pretty much sums up every instance of WTF’ery life can throw at us,”
It’s like rain, on your wedding day.
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would have thought? It figures.
As such an icon to the masses, imagine the fun when Alanis donned a disguise alongside partner-in-crime Jimmy Fallon and took to the NYC subways to sing Christmas carols to commuters. Even though I’m sure Alanis is having a great time in the prank, it also seems like a brilliant publicity stunt to raise awareness about the new Broadway show that bears the name of her notorious third studio album “Jagged Litte Pill.”
