Pride month is in full swing and we’ve already seen celebrations happening all across the country. This weekend, Los Angeles Pride officially kicked off its pride month activities with the Los Angeles Dodgers LGBT Night! Celebrating their 7th Annual LGBT Night, the Dodgers played against the Phillies and took home the win 6-3 after multiple home runs.
LGBT Night started with an exclusive party at the Right Field Plaza Bar. LA Pride and the Los Angeles LGBT Center hosted free giveaways for people while DJ Bowie Jane played the best West Hollywood mixes for the crowd. During the pre-game party, the Varsity Gay League held a kickball game in outfield. All LGBT Night ticket holders received a limited edition rainbow duffel bag.
As over 50,000 attendees filed into Dodger Stadium, the pre-game activities took place at Home Plate. Special guests for LGBT Night included John D’Amico, Mayor of West Hollywood; Hannah Hart; Melissa Etheridge; Out activist and former Dodger player, Billie Bean; Bex Taylor-Klaus and more! A highlight of the pre-game presentations included Dodger co-owners Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss honoring the LA LGBT Center with the Community Hero Award for 50 years of service to the LGBT community.
The national anthem for the evening was sung by Nikki Blonsky, known for her film portrayal of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray. And kicking off the game was funny man Ross Mathews, judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, announcing the LA Dodgers line-up!
During LGBT Night, some very iconic gay anthems such as Lady Gaga’s Poker Face, Abba’s Dancing Queen, and Madonna’s Ray of Light were played on the organ.
After the Dodgers took home a victory, LGBT Night culminated in a Friday night firework spectacular where everyone was invited to watch the show from the field.
It was definitely a proud night for Dodger fans as over 12,000 LGBT Night tickets were sold. It was a great way to start off Pride week in Los Angeles! LA Pride will be held in West Hollywood June 8th-9th.
