I’ll Step In: Four Potential Oscar Hosts to Replace Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart made the decision to step down from hosting the 2019 Academy Awards early Friday morning amid his past homophobic language being brought up all over the interwebs.

"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” he wrote on Twitter. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

“I'm sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so,” Kevin continued. “My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.”

The Academy now must scramble to find a new host for the upcoming ceremony set to air February 24th, 2019 on ABC. There are a handful of people in the entertainment world who would do a pretty great job as host in place of Kevin come Oscars night. Here are four that come to mind.

Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen has been a household name for several decades now and would be a safe choice for The Academy to make. Her brand of humor is inviting for all audiences, regardless of her sexual preference, and she’s proven that for 15 years now on her hit daytime talk show. This wouldn’t be her first trip to the rodeo either, as she’s hosted both in 2007 and 2014.

Awkwafina. The gorgeous rapper and actress had quite the 2018 with starring roles in hit films like Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean’s 8. She’s hosted past award shows and dropped some pretty funny moments while there, including at the 22nd Hollywood Film Awards earlier this year where she saw Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling backstage and said “We should call the show Crazy Hot Caucasians. It’s very steamy back there."

Tiffany Haddish. The breakout star of Girls Trip would more than likely not do it given her close connection to Kevin (they just co-starred in the film Night School ). Regardless, Tiffany has been the name on everybody’s lips over the past two years and she would do a pretty stellar job with her brand of humor on the Oscars stage in February.

RuPaul Charles. This might be far-fetched, but Ru would do a great job hosting the show given the fact that he’s won several Emmys for his hosting duties on RuPaul’s Drag Race. His show is mainstream enough at this point for his humor to go over well with everyone in the audience at home and at The Oscars and it would be hilarious to watch him poke fun at the nominees from a drag point of view.
