Just last Sunday we learned of what a 28 year old North Carolina man would do to find out more information on something he saw on the intranets (Assault Rifle Fired In Hillary's Sex Trafficking Pizzeria. Fake News Story Lead To Attack.) Luckily no one was injured in the gunfire and he surrendered peacefully. Even more info about the shooter Edgar Welch was shared recently from an interview with the New York Times. If there were injuries or deaths, it would be most likely impossible to have interviewed Welch and find out why he did what he did, bringing a gun into a restaurant that he believed was a center for a child sex trafficking ring run by the restaurant owner and Hillary Clinton.
“I just wanted to do some good and went about it the wrong way,” he said.
He told reporters that his plan was to leave his home and drive 350 miles to Washington D.C. to get a closer look at the restaurant, oh and he took his military-style assault rifle along for the ride. The drive to D.C., equivalent to driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles, was to be repeated later that day since it was just a scouting trip and he had planned to return to his family.
According to court documents, Mr. Welch said he had come armed to help rescue the children.
He goes on to tell that he learned of the pizza restaurant and the child sex ring through word of mouth an then later via the recently installed internet in his home. He mentioned the articles just snowballed on the internet, one after another.
“The intel on this wasn’t 100 percent,” he said. However, he refused to dismiss outright the claims in the online articles, conceding only that there were no children “inside that dwelling.” He also said that child slavery was a worldwide phenomenon. –
The interview lasted the full 45 minutes, as long as the prison would allow. What else did
What was he like?
- He said he did not believe in conspiracy theories, but then added that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks needed to be re-examined.
- He has listened to Alex Jones, whose radio show traffics in conspiracy theories and who once said that Mrs. Clinton “has personally murdered and chopped up” children. “He’s a bit eccentric,” Mr. Welch said. “He touches on some issues that are viable but goes off the deep end on some things.”
- Mr. Welch likes to read. A favorite is “Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul,” by John Eldredge, about masculinity in evangelical Christianity.
- He said he did not do drugs but drank the occasional beer.
- He misses his children: “They are in my thoughts every second of the day.” He said he had grown religious in the last few years.
- While once a registered Republican, he did not vote for Donald J. Trump. He also did not vote for Mrs. Clinton. But he is praying that Mr. Trump takes the country in the “right direction.”
- Tattooed on his back are Bible verses: “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
- He said that he had acted in haste and that, if he could, he would do a lot of things differently. “I regret how I handled the situation,” he said. –
Have a car, have a gun, and have questions about other people's actions. Those things are all allowed. But when you put them all together with a 6 hour road trip and pulling of a trigger …
We're very happy no one was injured in this incident.
What should be his punishment?
Should an example be made of him to deter future actions like this?
Minimum 5 years (without
Minimum 5 years (without parole) plus use of deadly weapons charges AND confiscate all weapons with none allowed in future.
I would also add in , a court
I would also add in , a court ordered, at least 10 years of psycho therapy with a court ordered review completion.
