MTV VMAs Will Celebrate Talent And Not Gender

Taking lead from this year’s MTV TV & Movie awards, MTV has decided to drop the gender-specific categories and rank all artists on the same standards of talent and popularity for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). I think they’re onto something!

MTV revealed their list of nominees for the newly revamped awards show.

The change came after non-binary actor Asia Kate Dillion approached MTV about the gendered categories she did not identify with. Taking the cue, MTV moved toward the inclusion of all artists both for the TV & Movie Awards and VMAs.

This year’s new “Artist of the Year” category will include Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, and Lorde.
