Queer as Folk’s reboot is just around the corner.
We shared with you earlier this year that Queer As Folk was not only getting one reboot but two. First, a French production company gained the rights to create a modern and French version of the series. And then Bravo announced that it would be producing a reboot of the popular British/original version of the show.
Now, more information about that second series has appeared, so we now have info about the show’s release date and where it’s releasing. Bravo announced that the new Queer As Folk show will be watched through NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service (in yet another push for channels and companies to make the same streaming money that Netflix has been swimming in for years).
To write, direct, and executive produce this new series is Stephen Dunn (Closet Monster, Swallowed). But original series creator Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who, Cucumber, Banana, Tofu) will oversee the new series as an executive producer.
According to Variety, the reboot will be “a modern take on the original British series that centres on a group of club-going friends who find support in the gay community following a tragedy.”
But for those put off by the idea of subscribing to another streaming service, there is some quality reasoning for subscribing to NBCUNiversal’s. Not only will the new Queer As Folk reboot appear there, but so too will The L Word’s new revival (which recently announced some of its new casting) and episodes from the Will & Grace revival (which was recently canceled). So until streaming services decides to give us packaging deals like cable before it, NBCUniversal’s service may be worth looking into.
