It appears that Lena Waithe is trying her best to represent Black and LGBTQ stories to those in need. And we are waiting for it with open arms and a hunger to view it. The latest work on the horizon gives us just that in the form of twenty-somethings trying to figure life and work out.

Specifically, Twenties will be released by BET in early 2020. The eight-episode series follows the adventures of a queer black girl named Hattie, played by newcomer Jonica “JoJo” T. Gibbs (Good Trouble, The Neighborhood), and her two best friends, Marie, played by Christina Elmore (The Last Ship, Insecure, Fruitvale Station), and Nia, played by Gabrielle Graham (On The Basis of Sex, 21 Thunder); as they chase their dreams and live life in their twenties.

Waithe is executive producing the series alongside Susan Fales-Hill. The two are also the co-showrunners. They are then joined in the executive producer role by Rishi Rajani and Andrew Coles.

While we wait for Waithe’s other future projects like another season of Dear White People (for which she writes), Amazon’s horror anthology THEM, and HBO’s Untitled Kid Fury Project, we can watch the first trailer for Twenties down below.
