Neil Patrick Harris had surgery?!
Just two weeks ago, we celebrated the news of Neil Patrick Harris signing on for a British tv series penned by celebrated tv show creator Russell T. Davies and starring Years & Years’ Olly Alexander. But not too long after the announcement of that gay period drama, and the announcement of a surprise movie casting (more on that below), we hear that Patrick Harris has been hurt.
Harris revealed on Instagram yesterday that he was harmed while on vacation in Croatia. The injury was so bad that it warranted surgery. According to the actor, he jabbed his hand on a sea urchin, which resulted in an infection and a pierced tendon. Thankfully, the procedure went well and Harris is taking time off to recover.
“Had surgery today. I tripped and hand planted onto a sea urchin almost two months ago while climbing rocky cliffs in Croatia. Most of the tiny spines I dug out myself, but two refused to leave and one got infected. Turns out it pierced through a tendon (see ultrasound video). Well, thanks to the surgical talents of Dr. Dan Polatsch and his team, I’m officially urchin free and on the mend. Only drawback – having to wear this massive hand elevating contraption for the foreseeable future (see third pic). All in all, though, I have to say: uni is still delicious.”
To course-correct from that sad news, there was also another recent casting announcement for Neil Patrick Harris.
While he was out risking his hand in Croatia, Deadline reported that Harris would be joining Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen for the Matrix 4. While the nature of Harris’s role has yet to be shared, Lana Wachowski is directing and co-writing the script. So we know he’ll be given something wacky to play with.
He just wants to be Doogie Howser again.
