It is no secret that RuPaul’s Drag Race has more than a fair share of celebrity fans. From Anne Hathaway on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to Chris Pine on Saturday Night Live, this reality show game-changer has truly crept it’s way into the American lexicon via some of our biggest celebrities, who root for their own favorite queens week after week.
Now, the celebrities will get their own chance to stomp the Drag Race runway and have us root for them! Late yesterday, VH1 announced that RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race has been greenlit for 2020. A spin off of the Emmy winning smash television show, the four-episode event series will feature “12 sickening celebrities as they sashay into the werk room to compete for the first-ever title of America’s Next Celebrity Drag Superstar”. Both the premiere date and dynamic celebrity guests will be announced shortly.
The show would not be complete without having some of our favorite returning queens back to consult and counsel these celebrities on everything from their lace front wigs to their reading. In each episode, “three celebrities will undergo a complete drag transformation with the help of some of the most iconic queen supremes from the series”. Returning queens will include Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo. The celebrity cast will be competing for not just the title, but for prize money for the charity of their choosing.
“Doing drag does not change who you are, it reveals who you are,” said four-time Emmy Award-winning host and Executive Producer, RuPaul Charles. “I can’t wait for the world to see what happens when our celebrity contestants get all up in drags!”
RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. is currently airing on WowPresentsPlus as well as on Logo. RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 5 and Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 12 have both been announced previously.
