Avengers: Infinity War Review!
Massive Spoilers Ahead!
#AVENGERS! Chances are your social media has been absolutely flooded from one of the year's hottest films. The highly anticipated, ten year pay off from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Avengers: Infinity War. While Marvel may not have the hottest ensemble of men, there's no denying they have better films. It's with pleasure I get to give you a spoiler filled review, so if you don't want details on the film before you see it – thanks for the click, but exit out and check out another fantastic article! Alright, let's dive in:
Infinity War starts off with big baddie, Thanos, wrecking all of Chris Hemworth's Thor and his people. Thanos is dead set on getting six infinity stones – so he can rule the universe and kill everyone. Talk about someone who likes their alone time, right? In the end, Thor is the only person to survive the pitiful fight who remains in space. Yeah…we can go ahead and say goodbye to Tom Hiddleston's Loki. It's actually pretty emotional- setting the tone for the rest of the film. The Guardians of the Galaxy find Thor and take care of him. He eventually recovers from his injuries and informs them Thanos is coming. The group splits: Thor is going to retrieve a weapon to kill Thanos while the rest, including Gamora and Star-Lord (Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt) venture to stop Thanos from retrieving another infinity stone.
Then, Hulk – or Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) – who was sent to Earth during the Thanos/Thor fight – reaches Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and informs him of Thanos' arrival. They fight off Thanos' soldiers with the help of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spiderman (Tom Holland). Everyone but Hulk eventually ends up in space. Everyone in space eventually ends up meeting and ending with Thanos acquiring five of the six stones he needs. In the fight for the stones, Gamora is shockingly sacrificed.
On Earth, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and her boyfriend, Vision (Paul Bettany), are bamboozled by more of Thanos' soldiers. They team up with Captain America (Chris Evans), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and head to Wakanda to meet up with Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and his crew. Their goal is to remove the infinity stone which gives Vision life, in order to stop Thanos from having all six.
Of course, Thanos arrives to Wakanda and virtually destroys it. The Avengers put up a great fight, killing his entire army. During the war, Scarlet Witch kills Vision. Thanos turns back time, since one of the stones allows, and snatches the infinity stone within Vision, killing him- twice in five minutes. Finally, Thanos has what he wants and disappears. As he does, nearly half of the world is wiped out – leaving only a few of our heroes, including Black Widow, Captain America, and Hulk, left to survive and wonder what the hell just happened. In a post credit scene, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) places a distress call to Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) before perishing before our eyes.
Without question, this is the greatest Marvel movie to date. Star-Lord comes equipped with horrible one liners throughout. He's seriously the worst part of the otherwise flawless film. Seeing everyone together, with virtually equal screen time, is a huge kudos to the writers and creators alike. What shocked me was the lack of Black Widow – was Johansson pregnant during filming?! She's present in a lot of scenes, but doesn't give much meat. The true stand out is the incredible Olsen. Scarlet Witch finally gets the air time she deserves and a plot which sends her soaring above the rest of the cast. I am eagerly anticipating the conclusion to Infinity War, which releases in May 2019.
