Rumors have been swirling for a couple of weeks now that RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 4 is coming back sooner than later, even though a rather dull All Stars 3 just finished a couple of months ago. This was right before the premiere of season 10 of RuPaul's Drag Race, which just finished last week. What. A. Drag.
OK, so let's hypothetically say that All Stars 4 is happening. Who should be on it? After careful consideration, reporting, polls, eating at a bunch of fast food and listening to every single song these queens have done since season one, I have came up with who I think should be on the (potential) upcoming season):
NO ONE.
Not a single queen needs to return just yet. For the love of shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal, let this freaking concept breathe for a couple of years. Would we want to see the summer Olympics every year outside of all the nudity? No (ok maybe, but still).
The special aspect that this show has brought to our community has been dwindling for years now. AS4 should not be anywhere near having a premiere date until at least 2020. And if it does premiere sooner, queens from seasons 9 and 10 should not be on them whatsoever, no matter what your position is.
Were you a star on the show in 2017 and 2018? Yes. An "All Star" though? No, not yet. It takes time to develop your brand post-show that allows you to become that sort of queen. I think that's what the purpose of the word "All Star" is: making something for yourself outside of a show that brought you fame and fortune. There have been many that have done and and others that have faded back into obscurity. Just chill for a bit and make your mark, then come back.
Do I think the "All Star" concept has brought certain queens careers back to life or brought them a new fan base? Of course. But it is becoming a force-fed situation with this show, and there is nothing wrong with chilling the f**k out so we aren't ruining something so awesome.
There are a ton of queens who I definitely think deserve another shot at the crown after the absolute disaster All Stars 1 was. But, we just wrapped two seasons of this show in six months with S11 more than likely premiering six months from now. It's just overkill at this point.
So in my humble opinion, I hope to not see a preview for anything related to All Stars until 2020. Let's keep this as the present we know we want to open, and not that sweater from Grandma that you will throw out the minute you get home.
