Carson Kressley has been a television staple for many of us for almost twenty years now. He found instant fame as part of the original fab five on Bravo’s hit series Queer Eye, which has since been remolded and retooled with a new cast on Netflix.
The Allentown, Pennsylvania native has since then kept his audience captivated with everything that he does, while bringing in thousands of new fans as time has gone by. This is due to his success on other hit shows such as How to Look Good Naked and RuPaul’s Drag Race, the latter of which he has been an official judge on for four seasons straight.
Now he’s doing something a tad bit out of the ordinary (for many adults): camping, as he makes his way to Camp OUT at Club Getaway this coming weekend. Camp OUT was first introduced in 2017 as a fantastic camping weekend for the LGBTQ community, where it is filled with a variety of outdoor and indoor activities as well as a ton of food, drink and so much more for us to enjoy (you can find more about last year’s journey here).
Carson was nice enough to sit down with us right before he heads to Club Getaway in the tiny town of Kent, Connecticut this weekend to discuss the aspect of summer camping as a grown up, his thoughts on Aquaria winning season 10 of RPDR, if he would ever go back full time to Queer Eye and more exciting developments in his life. Check it out.
How excited are you to be participating in Camp OUT at Club Getaway?
I’m super excited. I was always jealous of kids that got to go to summer camp! I never did, and now it’s my chance. And I’m pretty sure this will be even better because “I’m legal” now!
Does the idea of "roughing it" thrill you or the other way around?
Well I happen to be pretty rugged actually, but I think this will be more of a “glamping” experience. They have some really cute cabins – think rustic Ralph Lauren – and food and activities looks fabulous. And they have a bar. What more could you want?
What fun activities do you have planned for it?
Well I’m a big tennis fan, so I plan to spend some time on the courts for sure. And I love the water – so I’m thinking some time on and IN the lake is a must. Most of all, I’m looking forward to hosting their comedy night on Saturday.
You've become a major tv star in your own right over the past twenty years. How did you get so tenacious and career driven?
You know I try to say yes to as many opportunities as possible as they present themselves. And it has served me well. Hard work helps too. Talent only gets you so far!
Were you happy with the result of RuPaul's Drag Race this year? Are you coming back for another lap in 2019?
I’ve been so lucky to be a part of this iconic show. And thrilled that it’s been nominated for 12 Emmys this year. I think Aquaria is a great winner. I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time. And yes I hope to be back next year!
Would you ever go back to Queer Eye if they asked?
I was so lucky to be a part of that show! We won an Emmy for our efforts and it was the defining moment in my career. I’d be happy to make a cameo if I were asked. But that’s about it. I’ve been there and done that and thrilled a new group of gay men is getting a chance to experience that magic.
What else do you have coming up that your fans can look forward to?
I have a new design show premiering in October on Bravo. It feels like I’m home!
