With the costs of colleges and universities continuing to rise, its good to find ones that are financially affordable out there that won't break your bank.
If you happen to identify as someone who is part of the LGBTQ community, it's also vital for us to navigate which ones are the friendliest to us so we feel welcome the minute we walk onto their campus.
A writer at Student Loan Hero penned an article on Wednesday morning identified the 5-most affordable LGBTQ-friendly colleges and universities for both in-state and out-of-state students.
Turns out that the most affordable LGBTQ schools are not in California or New York, which are two areas considered beacons for our community to thrive in… they happen to be in the midwest.
The top 5 most affordable LGBTQ-friendly colleges for out-of-state students are:
1. University of Minnesota-Morris
2. Eastern Illinois University
3. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
4. University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
5. Princeton University
Interesting how four of the top five are in the midwest and that the only east coast school represented happens to be an Ivy League one.
For in-state students, the top five are all over the place when it comes to their geographical location:
1. University of Washington-Seattle Campus
2. University of Maine at Machias
3. Purdue University
4. California State University, Northridge
5. University of Minnesota-Morris
Others that made the list include Amherst College and Williams College (both Massachusetts based) for out-of-state and West Virginia University and Indiana University for in-state.
