Should We Give Sexual Predators Any Sympathy?

Remember back when the #MeToo Movement gained mainstream attention in Fall 2017? Remember when shamed Academy Award winning actor, Kevin Spacey, came out of the closet in the wake of allegations he’s a pedophile? I haven’t forgotten! It turns out no one else did either, especially after he released an odd video claiming he was going to make a comeback only to get another sexual assault case thrown at him days later. It’s very clear the majority of the key players predators in the #MeToo Movement aren’t getting their careers back (looking at you, Harvey Weinstein). Which is completely fair, because it’s quite obvious they took advantage of their power and used it for evil. However, they are now as damaged as the ones they’ve abused. It’s apparent some of them don’t have the same strength as their survivors. Spacey is allegedly one of them.

According to The Sun, Spacey’s older brother, Randy Fowler, is worried Kevin may kill himself after having more than 30 young men claim they’ve been assaulted by him. Fowler tells:

“I’m worried about him committing suicide. But then you have to think, ‘Nah he’s too narcissistic, he probably wouldn’t do that’. But you’d be surprised what people will do when they’re faced with the truth and they can’t deal with it. All your money isn’t going to cure your damaged soul. How many hundreds of people are out there that haven’t said a word that don’t have the courage to come forward? You think 30 is even one per cent? The right thing to do go into court in Nantucket in March and plead guilty and be a man and take your punishment and be done with it. Robin Wright (Spacey’s House of Cards co-star) a few months ago said that ‘well everybody deserves a second chance’. Wait a minute. My brother had a second and a third and a fourth and a hundredth chance to do the right thing and not take advantage of somebody.”

Spacey is due back in a Massachusetts court on March 4th for allegedly groping an 18-year-old boy in 2016. While Spacey and absolutely no other predator will ever gain sympathy from me, others may think differently. I entirely agree with Fowler: A leopard doesn’t change its spots. Throughout my young life, I have seen people rehabilitated who genuinely wanted and deserved a second (third, fourth, fifth) chance, but those people also weren’t touching children or harming others, beyond loved ones experiencing traumatic stress, to my understanding. I’m quite forgiving…but child sex abuse is something I believe should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Oh and don’t you worry, I haven’t forgotten about you, disgraced director and gay-Hollywood’s worst alleged pedophile, Bryan Singer. After your latest movie got dropped by Millennium Films, your career is now 100% mainstream tarnished.

Prosecution should and needs to occur in these horrific cases.  Suicide is not the answer or solution to anyone's problems.  As someone who has lost a blood relative to suicide, a person very close to me whom I could call a brother, I strongly encourage anyone who is battling with inner demons and thoughts of suicide to reach out to The Trevor Project (LGBTQ focused) or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at: 800-273-8255.

  2. Whether we should have

Whether we should have sympathy for a sexual predator and whether suicide is OK are two different questions. I do believe that sexual predators should be held accountable but to believe a person should commit suicide because of what he/she did is wrong.

  3. Hey Mickey.  I hope you

Hey Mickey.  I hope you deeply need forgiveness one day.  And get it.  So you can experience what you in you’re infinite wisdom have ordained to be denied to people and situations you cannot truly know.

One more judgmental prick among us.  Have a great day.
