Drag Queens, NYC Ball Culture, & The Runway Scene. Is It Common Ground?

Some drag stars have it, some don't, and others have it in abundance.  They can sing, dance, perform, and burn the house down.

Flip over to the New York City Ball scene.  The artistry of the ball has captivated fans for years.  The performers and creative minds of the Ball scene are in a category of their own.

Can these two art forms, Drag and Ball, can they be compared to one another?

Moovz filmed the New York Awards Ball that occurred a couple months back and then edited it together with footage from the “Runway” Voss event at RuPaul’s DragCon.   Can you see how these famous drag queens may have been inspired by the ballroom scene?  The similarity of the dance moves et al. is undeniable.

The video features many well known queens, including:  Alaska Thunderfuck, Kennedy Davenport, Gia Gunn, Milk Queen, Shangela, Alyssa, Laganja, Raja Gemini. Chi Chi Devayne. Jessica Wild. Derrik Barry, Aquaria, and Nebaskra Thunderfuck.  See if you can recognize any others.

The runway video was inspired by Twiggy from the documentary about the ballroom scene in New York City called “KiKi.”

What do you think?  Is there a comparison?

Do we dare start the debate … which came first?

Or do we just sit back and enjoy both shows?

Special Thanks to Twiggy, Voss Events, and DJ Vjuan Allure for the fabulous track.
