There really is no stopping Lil Nas X at this point.
He’s taken over most of 2019 with his smash hit “Old Town Road” (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus) that became the longest-running number one single in Billboard Hot 100 history earlier this month.
Now he’s added another impressive record to his ever growing musical resume. The 20-year-old just became the first openly gay artist nominated for a Country Music Association award on Wednesday, August 28.

Lil Nas is up for Musical Event of the Year for “OTR” at the upcoming ceremony that will take place in November. He thanked them for the nomination on his Twitter the same day.
“OTR” was booted from Billboard’s country music charts after the music magazine thought the song wasn’t country enough. Perhaps this nomination is a Pretty Woman moment where he tell them, “BIG MISTAKE! HUGE!”
He’s up against Maren Morris (featuring Brothers Osbourne), Brooks & Dunn (with Luke Combs), Garth Brooks & Blake Shelton and Brantley Gilbert & Lindsay Ell for the honor.
Lil Nas’ August finished on a high note when he performed and won big at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, He took home Song of the Year and sang “Panini” for the first time on television.
