Milo Yiannopoulos has spent years loudly supporting Trump’s immigration enforcement. This week, he found himself on the receiving end of the very system he had championed.
The British far-right commentator and former chief of staff to Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana on August 27. He was subsequently transferred to an ICE detention facility before being deported back to the United Kingdom on August 28.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, “ex-gay” Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States in May 2019 but remained after his authorized stay expired. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for an immigration hearing.
And DHS was not exactly subtle about it.
The Government Had Receipts
In a statement shared on X, Homeland Security wrote:
“On August 27, ICE arrested Milo Yiannopoulos, an illegal alien from the United Kingdom, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in Kenner, Louisiana. Yiannopoulos legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”
The agency added:
“Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to show up for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal.”
That final sentence did not age particularly well as a description of his status, because he was deported to the UK the following day.
From Yeezy to ICE
Before his latest headline-making appearance, Yiannopoulos was closely associated with Ye. He served as Yeezy’s chief of staff for nearly two years and also became director of political operations for Ye’s YE24 presidential campaign.
Their relationship eventually imploded over Ye’s plans for “Yeezy Porn.” Yiannopoulos resigned in 2024 and provided TMZ with a resignation letter objecting to producing or distributing pornography for moral and religious reasons.
In the letter, he described such material as “an imminent danger to my life as a recovering addict and an unacceptable risk to my spiritual and physical health as a former homosexual.”
The MAGA Immigration Plot Twist
The detention became especially eyebrow-raising because Yiannopoulos had previously been outspoken in support of harsh immigration enforcement.
Among his past comments was the allegation:
“We are going to find out that there are over 50 million illegals in the United States.”
That old post resurfaced after his ICE detention, with social media users pointing out the extraordinary full-circle quality of the situation.
Whatever one thinks of Yiannopoulos, the basic facts are remarkably straightforward: he entered legally, overstayed, missed an immigration hearing, received a final removal order, was detained by ICE, and was ultimately deported.
For someone who spent years demanding tougher immigration enforcement, getting personally acquainted with the machinery of that enforcement is one hell of a plot twist.
