Vatican Condemns ‘Italian Earthquakes Caused By Same-Sex Civil Unions’ Statement

Gays causing natural disasters once again.  I didn't share last week when Father John Cavalcoli insisted that Italian same-sex unions were the cause of the recent Italian earthquakes. We're getting a little tired of this hocus pocus magic the church and others think gays supposedly have. If we had such powers, the world would be quite different, believe me.

It seems that the Pope agrees that we don't have magical powers, but he didn't come out and say it that way exactly.

The Vatican has condemned a right-wing Catholic radio station after a broadcast said the recent earthquakes in Italy were "God's punishment" for gay civil unions.  The remarks, made on the station Radio Maria, were "offensive and scandalous", the Vatican said.  A Dominican friar said the quakes, including one in August that killed nearly 300, were caused by sins of man.  He said these included the approval of same-sex civil unions last May.

But the Vatican rejected the remarks as pagan, and said they had nothing to do with Catholic theology.  "They are offensive statements for believers and scandalous for those who do not believe", said Monsignor Angelo Becciu, deputy secretary of state, who is close to Pope Francis.  Monsignor Becciu said Radio Maria, which has come under criticism in the past for comments seen as anti-Semitic, had to "moderate the tone of its language" and conform to the Church's message of mercy.

But the friar at the centre of the scandal stood by his description of the quakes as divine intervention.  "Just read the catechism," Father John Cavalcoli said, referring to Roman Catholic religious instruction.  Radio Maria has published a statement (in Italian) on its website, saying the offensive comments did not reflect the views of the station.  – bbc.com

So the belief that we have powers to rock the world is a Pagan belief and not a Catholic one?  So maybe we do have powers, but they're not recognized by the Pope, but they would be recognized in a different faith?

It's a lovely "shake our heads' moment.  Just come out and say we are not evil humans already.

  2. If we have all this power,

If we have all this power, you know, to control Mother Nature at our whim, to cause religion and morality to crumble, to bring age-old beliefs and divination to standstills – wouldn't you think that they'd be less quick to blame us and more apt to fear and respect us?  *rolls eyes*   My guess is then that since they DO blame us then we DON'T have said power.  Sometimes this world worries me.
