The first video of Robert Pattinson as the new Batman? Take a look below!
Last May, we heard the news that the former Twilight star turned art-house actor had signed on to play the caped crusader. This will be Warner Bros. Entertainment’s latest version of the character after Ben Affleck departed from the role.
Not much about the film’s story is known right now. What we do know is that the movie will be loosely based on the Batman: Year One and Batman: The Long Halloween comics, which depicted a younger Bruce Wayne just at the beginning of his career as a vigilante. In addition, the comics showcased Batman’s famous rogue’s gallery of villains like Catwoman, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, and more. On that note, Pattinson won’t be alone in this film as he’s joined by an assortment of actors like Colin Farrell playing The Penguin, Zoë Kravitz playing Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Paul Dano playing The Riddler, and more.
But again, what does Robert Pattinson look like as the role? Director Matt Reeves tweeted out a camera test of Pattinson in his costume yesterday. The video, which includes dramatic music by Michael Giacchino, shows a very dark shot of Pattinson in the batsuit with a dark red lighting to highlight his costume.

Many fans on Twitter noted how Pattinson has chosen not to bulk up for the role and have coined the hashtag #SkinnyBatman to highlight this. But seeing as Pattinson’s Batman is just a year or two into the gig, we can understand why.
As for what Pattinson himself thinks of the look. He talked to Variety about his first time in the batsuit.
“I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit,’” Pattinson told the publication. “You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’”
If this first look has got you excited for Pattinson and The Batman, know that the movie is still over a year away. You’ll have to wait until June 2021 to see the full film in theaters.
