'Queer Eye' Star Karamo Brown Opens Up About His Past Suicide Attempt

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown got very real with his millions of followers on Thursday by revealing that he attempted suicide many years ago.

The 37-year-old shared his story on Instagram that was accompanied by a video of a performer singing the words "...Said I Made It... anybody been through the storm anybody been through the rain...” as it related to what he was talking about.

"Today in 2006 I was sitting on my couch alone, attempting to commit suicide. In my mind life was over for me," Karamo revealed. "But I got mental health support & worked each day to believe again. And here I am happy & healthy. I made it and If you’re going through something you can make it too!" He also include the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at the bottom of the post (1-800-273-8255).

The comments section from that post was flooded with supportive comments for the charismatic television star. "I had no idea- thank you for sharing. You are amazing," and "i’m so glad you posted this, it’s so inspiring and you have opened so many eyes and helped others feel comfortable in their own skin , so thank you" were just two of the many left for him after he bravely shared the news.

He followed that initial post up with a video message later on in the day. “Hey friends… today in 2006 I did attempt to commit suicide,” he began. “You know, I was in a very dark place. I just felt like life could not get any better, everything that was happening to me was never going to change, and I tried to take my own life.”

He continued, “And if it wasn’t for my best friends Raymond and Tre calling the ambulance, getting me off the couch, I probably would not be here today.”

He went on to discuss the prevalence of mental health struggles going on in today's world. “I want you all to know that as you see me on Queer Eye helping people with their mental health… it’s because it’s important to me… because I know so many of us suffer from mental health issues and we just don’t know where to turn,” he said.

“Every day it seems darker and darker, but I want you to know that things do get better,” he shared. “If you get help and you do the work daily, your life can change. I’m living proof of that. And if you know someone in your life who’s going through it, reach out to them. You could be their support.”

If you or anyone you know if suffering, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255

The 5 Hottest Instagram Snaps From The 'Queer Eye' Guys

Season 2 of Queer Eye premieres one week from tomorrow! The new fab five (Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness) are back at it again only months after the first season of the reboot premiered back in February.

Every one of these guys (who visited the Australian town of Yass this week, LOL) brings something different to the table when it comes to helping each of their subjects out on the wildly popular Netflix series. Not only that, but they also bring a certain "something" when it comes to their individual handsomeness which gives us a reason to tune in outside of the emotional moments that pop up in every episode.

These guys carry the three S's very, very well: sexy, suave and sophisticated. And those resonate beautifully with the following five Instagram snaps that they have shared over the past year or so.

Take a look at what we think brings out those qualities the best below, where we identify their hottest Instagram snap that they have shared. Gives you something to look forward to right before the new season premieres next Friday on Netflix.

Yas! 'Queer Eye' Returns June 15th!

Well that didn't take long!

Netflix announced on Thursday that the second season of the freshly rebooted Queer Eye will return on June 15th. The show premiere in early 2018 to much adoration and fanfare from millions of fans who truly enjoyed the new fab five (Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, Tan France, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness) in action. The popular streaming service revealed that the show was renewed back in March.

The first season of Queer Eye found the guys in the deep red state of Georgia, where they were able to successfully makeover a slew of men from all different backgrounds, with one of them identifying as gay (the original run 15 years ago had them primarily making over heterosexual men).

The show tackled many different issues that plague our world today, including homophobia, racism and more, and gave a much needed shine to each of the cast members that went beyond their responsibilities on the program.

So where will the boys end up this time around and how will they use their expertise (Bobby with Interior Design, Karamo with Culture, Antoni with Food & Wine, Jonathan with Grooming, Tan with Syle) to the best of their abilities? Turn on your Netflix account on June 15th for another super fun season with this wonderful group of men.

3 Famous Gay Couples Had a Lot to Celebrate This Week

We all joke that dating another guy for six months (or six weeks) can equal to 6 years in the gay world, but its truly amazing when you see other couples who really go the distance and have something concrete and stellar to celebrate with one another as their time together increases.

Three gay couples, who have found fame in sports, television and more, each had something major to celebrate this week.  Whether it was an anniversary or a birthday, these fantastic men had no problem sharing about their love for one another on social media.

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown celebrated his partner Ian Jordan's birthday today in a really cute way.  He shared a beautiful photo of the two of them together, with a caption that reads as follows: "Happy birthday to the love of my life @theianjordan! I love you because of your heart, your humor but mostly because you don’t mind serving #GlamourShots realness w/ me anytime I ask. I pray today and this year brings you everything your heart desires. #HBD#40ish #TurnUp.

He also followed that up with a cute picture of him on his Instagram story that echoed what he wrote on his actual post.

Nate Berkus also had a big reason to celebrate this week, as May 3rd marked the fourth wedding anniversary with his partner and costar on Nate & Jeremiah by Design, Jeremiah Brent

He shared a photo from their wedding day, with a message that read "Four amazing years, 10 homes, 2 kids, 2 worn out passports. I love you JB." Awe.

Jeremiah followed suit on the same day, saying "4 years later and life continues to crack open in the most beautiful ways. Home for me will always be by your side, hand-in-hand. Happy Wedding Anniversary."

And finally we come to Olympic diver Tom Daley and his partner, Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black, who celebrated their one year anniversary two days ago.  Dustin shared a photo of the two of them at their wedding, looking dashing in their tuxedos and being quite intimate with one another.

Tom's photo was just as intimate, but the caption was a lot shorter yet just as meaningful all at the same time.

Karamo Brown Announces He's Working with a Controversial Clothing Brand

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown, who is a man of many hats as of late, has decided to partner with a very controversial clothing brand for an ad that he's creating with them.

The brand is H&M, who faced a ton of backlash earlier this year after featuring a black child wearing a sweatshirt with the phrase "coolest monkey in the jungle" etched on the front.

Karamo, who has been an outspoken advocate about equal rights for all, decided to talk about his decision to work with them prior to the ad being released on his Instagram stories Thursday.

"Tomorrow I am going to share a project I am doing w/ @HM.  I was aware of H&M's controversy- an image on their website portrayed a child of African decent (SP) wearing a hoodie with the slogan "coolest monkey in the jungle". Rather than rejecting the idea of working with H&M all together, I decided to use this as an opportunity to start a conversation with the company about cultural sensitivity."

"I met with executives at H&M to discuss how the company could ensure, through practical training and tools, an elimination of cross-cultuural misunderstanding and, instead encourage positive cross-cultural relationships going forward. I was excited by their desire to create new checks and balances to keep everyone working with and for H&M accountable, so that they can prevent these instances from happening in the future."

"I'm excited for everyone to see the fashion ad I am created with @HM tomorrow!  This is a bran that I love so much and have patronized for so long.  And I'll keep you updated as I continue to meet with them & discuss cultural sensitivity."

What are your thoughts regarding Karamo working wtih H&M?

Karamo Brown Decides to Say 'No' to An Important Event

Karamo Brown is definitely known to speak his mind, whether its with one of his subjects on the Netflix revival of Queer Eye or about the ongoing struggles that the LGBTQ community faces.

He just received a major invitation, something that millions of people would love to attend, but declined it for one very big reason.

He shared on his Instagram stories on Monday that he was personally invited to the White House Correspondent's Association Dinner, which is taking place this Saturday, April 28th.  The association is made up of journalists who cover the White House and our current president, Donald Trump.

Trump is the reason why he claims to not be going, but maybe he should rethink this given it is an event that Trump did not attend in 2017, and does not plan to attend again this year.  "The White House has informed us that the president does not plan to participate in this year’s dinner but that he will actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend and join us as we celebrate the First Amendment," Margaret Talev, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, said in a statement.

Who will be there though?  Well, for one, Kathy Griffin, who was invited as a guest of two major LGBT publications: Washington Blade and Los Angeles Blade. She won't be performing at all, but it would be good for the LGBT community to have two of its biggest trailblazers there that evening.

Do you think he made the right decision by declining this invitation?

Karamo Brown Goes Almost Commando in New Modeling Photos

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown has definitely gotten our attention in more ways than one ever since he emerged on MTV's The Real World over a decade ago.

There is so much about him that evokes the two words "turn on", that it's hard to pinpoint just one aspect. Good looks? Of course. Drive and determination? Yup.  The way he cares about the men he makes over on Queer Eye as well as people in real life? Ding ding.

His physical aesthetic earned him a side job on top of being a television personality recently, when major modeling brand Wilhelmina signed him in mid-March.  Not sure if the below photo set is with Wilhelmina directly, but it definitely showcases his assets in a truly beautiful way that needs to be seen.

Thanks to Cocktails and Cocktalk for posting these amazing photos.  Take a look for yourself here (slightly NSFW).

You've Gotta See These AMAZING Drawings of the 'Queer Eye' Cast!

The fab five from the Queer Eye reboot are getting a RuPaul's Drag Race type of treatment in terms of artists & illustrators wanting to draw each of them from a super creative standpoint (Several queens from RPDR have shared artwork that fans have done of them since the show's initial season.)

Given the popularity that these five are experiencing (Netlix already renewed the show for a second season), it doesn't come as much of a surprise that at least one person out there wanted to showcase them in art form, and the results are absolutely incredible to look at!

San Francisco based illustrator Emma Munger recently shared five individual drawings of the new fab five (Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness), and they are just so much fun to look at.  Each show their personalities that we have all come to know and love so well, and the detail that Emma puts into all of the drawings is nothing short of exquisite.

Take a look at what she was able to create (you can see more at her official website and Instagram here):

Queer Eye' Star 'Karamo Brown Honored With HRC Visibility Award

Karamo Brown has had quite the 2018 so far, as being one fifth of the new "fab five" on the Queer Eye reboot has found him some incredible success both on and off the camera.  His show alongside his other four cast members was just renewed for a second season, and his outspokenness and honesty on several topics as it relates to the LGBTQ community just earned him a major award last night.

He was honored with the HRC Visibility Award at their 21st Annual HRC Houston Gala on Saturday night.  The award was presented to him by Empire star Jussie Smollett.  It was announced that he would receive this honor in late March by HRC.

“As an out and proud gay man, Karamo Brown is using his incredible talent and public visibility to raise awareness and find solutions to the unique challenges LGBTQ people face,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “We are honored to have him marching alongside us as a vocal champion for equality, and we are proud to honor Karamo Brown with the HRC Visibility Award at the 21st Annual HRC Houston Gala.”

Outside of Queer Eye, Karamo has done quite a lot to earn this prestigious honor.  According to HRC, he currently serves on the board for OutRight International, a leading international LGBTQI human rights organization dedicated to improving the lives of people who experience discrimination or abuse on the basis of their sexual orientation, sex characteristics, or gender identity worldwide.

He also co-founded the non-profit organization, 6in10.org, which provides tailored mental health support for black gay and bisexual men in order to eradicate the 6 in 10 HIV statistic plaguing this community. In 2016, Karamo was invited by the Obama Administration to work with the White House to create policy/ legislation to support LGBTQ youth and their allies after school hours.

Karamo had this to say during his acceptance speech at the gala last night:

“Being visible helps others to be their authentic selves. It is up to us to share the difficult parts in our lives to encourage others. I saw the possibility of my life reflected back at me.”
