Hark, All Ye Nations Sing
Wow, it finally happened! I can’t believe it! Since living in Hollywood, California years ago in my early twenties I immediately heard about disgraced director, Bryan Singer. But, you know this already because I spilled the total tea on everything the West Hollywood gays know about Singer and his alleged (?) pool parties to you in January. In the era of #MeToo, I was so shocked that Singer and his group of adult misfits who have been plagued with child sex abuse allegations for years, leading to the film An Open Secret, hadn’t been destroyed by the media. Come on, we all knew about them. Slowly, Singer’s friends such as Gary Goddard, Kevin Spacey, and Tyler Grasham fell from their pedestals and are shunned from the entertainment industry. Yet Singer stayed shakily on top. He was drawn back into the headlines as he directed most of the Academy Award winning film, Bohemian Rhapsody. The film’s star, Rami Malek, put Singer on blast and production eventually fired Singer for poor behavior on set, although he is still credited as the film’s director. The aftermath, social media, and director Gabe Hoffman were not kind to Singer in the months up to the Academy Awards. Singer was denied achievements in directing due to severe new allegations and his raunchy past accusations. Esquire Magazine was set to release an expose on Singer, but instead it was shelved and picked up by The Atlantic. The new allegations against Singer and his group of merry, old gentlemen was heinous and something straight out of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. So much that the latest film Singer was set to direct, a remake of Red Sonja, was shelved by it’s production company, Millennium Films. Well, now we all can take a breath and rejoice, because Singer has been fired from production!
But, how did the news of Singer’s failure come like a silent fart that no one even smelt? I have been religiously following this story as I empathize with child sex abuse survivors, am a young, flamboyant adult living and working in Hollywood, and have my freaking Google Alerts on! Luckily, I follow the aforementioned Hoffman on Twitter and reading his feed comes as natural to me as eating dinner with a glass of chardonnay. I almost fell off my chair when I saw one of his latest tweets. Check it out below:

Right?! What!? How did I miss this?! It turns out because it was buried in an article about a completely different person, Kevin Tsujihara, who used his title to advance sexually on young women. Kim Masters and Tatiana Seigel of The Hollywood Reporter squeezed a blurb of Singer’s firing into an article discussing Millennium Film’s Chief Executive Officer, Avi Lerner, somewhat being in cahoots with Tsujihara. It’s like these journalists didn’t want us to even know this particular era of Singer has an ending, like they are trying to protect his name from being in the headlines again. So, despite how dangerous it could be, I’m doing it, because we finally are closing the chapter. Here’s what the women said about Singer’s removal from the film:
“Lerner made news recently when he hired Bryan Singer to direct a reboot of Red Sonja. After Singer was accused in an Atlantic article of sexually assaulting underage boys, Lerner dismissed the story as “agenda-driven fake news,” then walked the statement back. Eventually, he dropped Singer from the project because he was unable to secure a domestic distributor.”
Kind of makes you just coo doesn’t it? Like, social media finally helped in some cases by letting these damaged boys stories be told. I hope they are finally able to get a bit of sleep tonight knowing Singer’s career is – what would Sex and the City’s Lexi Featherston say – over. O-V-E-R. Over.
