RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11 queens A’Keria Chanel Davenport, Soju, and Silky Nutmeg Ganache spent a day volunteering at LGBTQ organization The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization.

The queens participated in a very timely discussion about mental health and online bullying where they shared their different experiences both as bullies who were projecting their own unhappiness onto others and being bullied for who they are.

“I wish that I had something like Trevor Project because I felt so alone in high school and I felt like I couldn’t talk to anybody,” Soju said in the clip.

Following the discussion, the queens participated in training to become crisis hotline volunteers. It is no secret that RuPaul’s Drag Race has served as a platform to discuss these important timely issues facing the LGBTQ community and working with The Trevor Project gave these queens an opportunity to further shine a light on these topics.

The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people.

Television personality Lisa Vanderpump partnered with The Trevor Project after the death of her brother Mark, who committed suicide in April 2018.

“Sometimes people don’t realize that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem,” Lisa said in her confessional from a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills scene. “When this happens there are so many broken hearts left behind. So many people that could’ve been there.”

I spoke with Lisa, 58, exclusively in June about her working with The Trevor Project and why her being a straight ally for our community is so immensely important.

“To me it’s a difficult world to live in as is,” she said. “As a straight ally to the gay community, I take it very seriously and I understand still that things aren’t where they should be.”
