True Solidarity.
A charter school in New Orleans has declined a free donation of Chick-Fil-A lunches to its teachers in a show of respect to LGBTQ faculty and staff.
According to WDSU News, Lusher Charter High School were provided Chick-Fil-A lunches by the Louisiana College Football Foundation as a show of support. But according to Principal Steven Corbett, that offer was quickly declined.
Corbett then sent an email to staff explaining why he chose to decline.
“Out of respect to our LGBTQ staff, we have chosen to not serve Chick-Fil-A at an employee lunch. The #1 rule at Lusher is to ‘Be Kind’ and we live this motto every day,” Corbett said. “Chick-Fil-A has been politically outspoken about its views, and we feel it is not part of Lusher’s culture of kindness and community.”
In #Nola @LusherPride (Lusher Charter School) is declining free lunches for staff on Friday because the meals are from @ChickfilA and the school wants to be ‘sensitive to the LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 community’ – Principal Steven Corbett 👇

He then added:
“Anytime an organization is anti-LGBTQ, and has efforts to infringe upon their rights, we thought it was important to support and stand up for their community at this time.”
The free lunch given to the Lusher High School was one of many given to Orleans Parish schools by the foundation. On top of that, these free meals are one of many initiatives presented by the foundation to leave a positive impact on the community. This is due to the city hosting the Sugar Bowl and College Football Championship, according to 4WWL.
Thankfully, the foundation was understanding of Corbett’s reasoning and sent a free meal from another restaurant the very next day.
The principal could have simply not eaten it. What gave him the right to decide for the entire staff. I disagree with Ben &Jerry’s politics. I simply don’t eat it during ice cream socials at work. Sounds like he was grandstanding.
Such a great story!!
If I still had young kids I would want them to attend this school!!!!
