Earlier this year, Charlotte-based Republican LGBT group Deplorable Pride, were denied a spot in the city’s annual Charlotte Pride parade. The group was denied participation in the city's largest parade because of their planned 27-foot-long float that would depict a drag version of Melania Trump with others wearing long blue evening gowns that read "Make America Great Again" reports the Charlotte Observer. Now, the Gays for Trump group is planning to protest 30-minutes prior to the parade.
A statement on the group's website reads:
Come and show your support for your fellow Trump supporters who are LGBT and are being persecuted by their own gay community. Please help us show that intolerance is not acceptable.
A spokesperson for Charlotte Pride has commented about the organization's right to not include those who exclude others from American society.
The statement by Charlotte Pride reads:
In the past, we have made similar decisions to decline participation from other organizations espousing anti-LGBTQ religious or public policy stances. Charlotte Pride envisions a world in which LGBTQ people are affirmed, respected, and included in the full social and civic life of their local communities, free from fear of any discrimination, rejection, and prejudice.
Charlotte police is prepared for the protest and what it could mean for spectators and visitors to the highly popular pride event.
The Group DeplorablePride is
The Group DeplorablePride is just riding the coattails of the GaysForTrump movement
Can something, anything, not
Can something, anything, not be about Trump, PLEASE!
I would ban them also. Gay Pride has nothing to do with Trump. Also, Trump's recent bizarre and unarticulated ban of trans from military service is a slap in the face of our T brothers and sisters.
Hmmm, always a tough call
Hmmm, always a tough call when it comes to drawing those lines,,, Trump had definitely caused some damage to our communities, AND, not everyone believes that is enough for an outright ban on all things Trump… Pride has become so much more than just a few people gathering in public daylight to say "get used to it",,, it has become a global movement to inspire the inclusion of the Non- hateful… So when do you determine to draw lines and where do you determine to draw them (if you do)???
There have been a couple of instances recently in Canada where certain factions were not invited to attend because of the prerequisites they wanted to apply to the event organizers to have their own agendas be given priority status beyond the original mandates… The organizers chose to go with what they thought was in alignment with the spirit of their mandates, and moved forward from there… "Perfect solutions that met everyones' needs? No.
About as perfect as it'll get without a more collaborative process in place? Yup.
I live in Charlotte and I
I live in Charlotte and I marched in the first pride parade and many others since. I am not attending Charlotte's gay pride parade this year because they have chosen to exclude Gays For Trump. I am not pro Trump but I am pro inclusion for all gay people. It is ethically wrong to exclude gay people who's political opinion is different from the mainstream. The gay liberation movement was about inclusiveness. The organizers of Charlotte Pride have appointed themselves the arbiters of which gay voices deserve to be heard and which ones belong in the closet. We are better than this.
They banned DeplorablePride
They banned DeplorablePride.org. Not gays for Trump.
If you lived in Charlotte and
If you lived in Charlotte and had followed this story in The Charlotte Observer for weeks, as I have, you would know that Gays For Trump was the groups original name. They changed it about a week ago to Deplorable Pride.
