Long before Carrie Bradshaw wore her iconic "newspaper dress" on Sex and the City, Christian Dior was the stuff that legends were made of.
Over a century after his birth, many of Christian Dior's designs are being shown as a full museum experience, some for the first time as the Philadelphia Museum of Art presents "Fabulous Fashion-From Dior's New Look To Now" (running through March 3rd).
One of the most divinely unique facets of the Christian Dior legacy is that so many iconic fashion designers have put thier magical touch onto the Dior legacy. From the smooth and classic lines of Yves Saint Laurent to the rock and roll aesthetic of John Galliano to the exotic style of Gianfranco Ferre' to the European flair of Cristobal Balenciaga, each designer is allowed to be showcased with their own distinct perspective represented.
Whether you are intrigued by the the drama and creativity behind of some of the most fashion forward and daring fashions ever designed, this is the kind of showcase for you. You will see stunningly romantic designs as well as designs that are clearly aimed towards the decade they were designed for. Getting to see the specifics behind some of the aesthetics used as well as the textiles that were used in certain designs in an up close and personal way is truly remarkable. For a number of the pieces in the exhibition, specifically some of the bridal and daywear-are on view for the first time. (Getting to see Philadelphia society's own Princess Grace Kelly's bridal gown and headpiece are truly remarkable).
