Before you head out to see Elsinore in a few weeks, allow us to refresh your memory about another Andrew Scott performance. Not an acting performance, exactly. More of a public service.
Back in 2024, Scott posed for Diaries99 in a series of very Tom of Finland-inspired looks, and let’s just say the photos gave the gays plenty to discuss.
One look featured the actor in a sheer mesh top paired with leather pants, because apparently regular clothing was simply not enough. Another had him wearing a leather harness while clutching his chest and flexing his biceps with the serious expression of a man who knows exactly what he’s doing.
And then came the glutes.
The Elsinore actor posed in jeans pulled just low enough to offer a cheeky glimpse of what appeared to be jockstraps underneath. Subtle? Technically. Effective? Extremely.
Now that the 49-year-old is back on the big screen in a queer historical drama, it feels like the perfect time to revisit that particular chapter of his career.

From Thirst Trap to Heartbreak
Scott stars in Elsinore as Scottish actor Ian Charleson, portraying the final months of Charleson’s life as he prepared for and performed Hamlet at London’s National Theatre in 1989 while living with AIDS.

The film recently picked up the International People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, giving it an extra dose of momentum ahead of its theatrical release.
And Scott isn’t simply bringing his usual charm to the role. Director Andrew Haigh has praised the actor’s performance as “effortlessly brilliant,” saying that when he watches the film, he doesn’t see Scott anymore. He sees Charleson.
That’s quite the transformation for an actor who can also apparently make an entire room of gays collectively forget what they were doing by putting on a leather harness.

Yes, That Clip Happened Too
Scott has also recently found himself going viral for a very different reason.
In a clip from A24’s upcoming series It Gets Worse, the actor delivers the wonderfully unhinged line, “You’re just a hole. You’re just a hole for daddy.” And honestly, Andrew Scott’s recent career trajectory is giving us quite the range.

When Can We See Scott?
Elsinore arrives in U.S. theaters on November 20, 2026, beginning with a limited release before expanding wider over Thanksgiving and through December.
UK and Irish audiences will have to wait a little longer, with the film scheduled to arrive on January 29, 2027.
So yes, go see Elsinore for the story, the history, the performances, and the emotional weight.
But if your brain occasionally wanders back to Andrew Scott in that leather harness?
