Last week, we shared with you the story of Reid Arthur’s coming out performance.
Arthur and a group of his friends participated in a school-wide Lip Sync contest. The winner of which, would win a $500 prize. Once on the George Fox University stage, the group of friends performed a mashup of Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” and “…Ready For It.”
In the middle of the routine, Reid Arthur stood at center stage while wearing a sparkly hoodie. His friends then got on either side of him, pulled his sleeves, and revealed rainbow tassels attached to his shirt underneath.
While the internet had fun watching the video, we’ve now come across the fact that Taylor Swift herself reacted to the fun. On Friday night, Swift tweeted out a response to the video expressing her support.
“This just made me SO emotional. @reidoburrito95 I can’t tell you how honored I am that my song has been even a small part in your journey. You did the brave thing and stood up for your truth.”

Reid Arthur than responded to that tweet, while mentioning the names of Swift’s cats, with shock, joy, and a total meltdown.
“This woman. My Queen. My Icon. The woman who’s lyrics I have screamed at the top of my lungs. Who’s songs have walked me through the hardest time of my life. TAYLOR ALISON SWIFT. MOTHER OF MEREDITH, OLIVIA, AND BENJAMIN, KNOWS MY NAME. TWEETED ME. I CANNOT CALM DOWN!!!!!”
HOW AM I EVER SUPPOSED TO DO MY HOMEWORK EVER AGAIN

For a young LGBTQ youth who idolizes a star, this is the best coming out present Reid Arthur could have ever asked for.
What a great coming out video and amazing response 🙂
