There was a time when seeing a gay Couple on TV felt like a big deal. Now, we have enough iconic pairings to argue over who had the best chemistry, the messiest drama, or the sweetest love story.
From Queer as Folk to Elite, these couples gave us romance, chaos, laughs, heartbreak, and plenty of moments to obsess over. But more than that, they showed us that gay relationships could be just as complicated, funny, sexy, and real as anyone else’s.
Here are five gay TV couples we still can’t get over.
1. Brian Kinney & Justin Taylor
Show: Queer as Folk
Why we loved them:
They were messy, sexy, complicated, and impossible to ignore. Brian and Justin’s relationship was hardly a traditional romance, which was exactly what made it so compelling. Their story explored sex, commitment, jealousy, coming out, growing up, and the complicated ways people can love each other without fitting neatly into a romantic fairytale.
Queer as Folk helped put gay men and their relationships front and center at a time when mainstream television was still figuring out how much queer representation it was willing to show.

2. Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson
Show: Glee
Why we loved them:
Kurt and Blaine, aka “Klaine,” gave an entire generation of viewers a gay teen romance they could obsess over. From their first meeting to the endless breakups, makeups, performances, and eventually marriage, these two brought plenty of drama.
And yes, they could be frustrating. But that’s part of the fun. Their relationship became one of Glee’s biggest romances and gave young LGBTQ viewers the chance to see a same-sex couple experience many of the same milestones as their straight counterparts.

3. David Rose & Patrick Brewer
Show: Schitt’s Creek
Why we loved them:
David Rose was not exactly searching for true love when he arrived in Schitt’s Creek. Then Patrick came along.
Their relationship was refreshingly sweet without turning David into a different person. Patrick loved David’s eccentricities rather than simply tolerating them, while David gradually learned what a healthy relationship could actually look like. Even better, their sexuality was never treated as a source of endless tragedy.
Their engagement, wedding, and domestic life gave viewers something incredibly satisfying: a gay couple simply being happy.
4. Mitchell Pritchett & Cameron Tucker
Show: Modern Family
Why we loved them:
Before David and Patrick, there was Mitch and Cam bringing gay marriage, parenthood, family arguments, and spectacularly unnecessary drama into the American mainstream.
They were ridiculous in the best possible way. Between Cam’s theatrical personality and Mitchell’s tightly wound energy, their relationship supplied plenty of comedy while still showing a committed gay couple navigating marriage and raising a family.
Most importantly, they weren’t written as “the gay couple” whose entire existence revolved around being gay. They were just one chaotic branch of a very chaotic family.
5. Omar Shanaa & Ander Muñoz
Show: Elite
Why we loved them:
If Schitt’s Creek gave us wholesome gay domesticity, Elite said, “What if we added sex (and lots of it), secrets, drugs, murder investigations, family drama, and approximately a thousand emotional breakdowns?”
Omar and Ander had chemistry from the beginning, but their relationship was anything but easy. In fact, it was messy. They dealt with religion, family expectations, sexuality, illness, jealousy, infidelity, and the pressures of keeping their relationship together.
From messy chemistry to sweet domestic bliss, these five couples showed us just how different gay love stories can be.
Different stories, different relationships, but all unforgettable. And honestly, we love to see it.
