The 5th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars is making the leap from VH1 to Showtime this coming June. The Wrap reported on Thursday, February 20, that a special edition of the Emmy-winning series will premiere immediately following the season 12 finale.
“Take VH1’s Drag Race, for example.With a large and loyal following, we believe this franchise will be additive to Showtime’s subscriber dynamic, which is why we will air a special new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars on Showtime on a first window basis,” Bob Bakish, the president and CEO of Showtime and VH1 parent company ViacomCBS, announced during the company’s earnings call Thursday.
Per Showtime, “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars gives viewers the chance to catch their favorite queens as they return for a second attempt to earn the crown, win a cash prize of $100,000 and garner a spot in the ‘Drag Race Hall of Fame.’”
The special season will premiere Friday, June 5 at 8/7c on Showtime on both its linear channel and streaming platform. Its rumored cast includes legendary queens from past seasons including Jujubee, Shea Coulee and Miz Cracker.
Season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, meanwhile, premieres next Friday, February 28, on VH1. Nicki Minaj plays guest judge for its debut episode where a whole new group of queens compete for the prize of America’s Next Drag Superstar.
wont be subscribing to Showtime to see All-Star. I have watched every season of Drag Race and All-Star.
ok ,I won’t subscribe to Showtime to see it. The show isn’t what it once was ,it is mundane and repetitive now,it’s like watching a home makeover show but with drag queens,it’s nice to see the end product but we learned that the foundation is cracked and the plumbing has issues.
