Lukas Gage and Jonathan Bailey in the same psychological thriller? Suddenly, professional cycling has our full attention.’

Gage has joined the cast of Pumping Black, the upcoming thriller starring Bailey as Taylor Mace, a 35-year-old professional cyclist whose career is starting to sputter just as the pressure to win reaches dangerous new heights.
Written by Haley Hope Bartels and directed by Mimi Cave, Pumping Black is set in the cutthroat world of professional cycling and is described as being in the vein of Whiplash and Black Swan. So, naturally, this is not going to be a cheerful little bike ride through the countryside.
Lukas Gage Is Keeping Us Guessing
Gage’s role is still under wraps, as is the role of fellow new cast member Alex Akpobome. Which means we currently have no idea whether he is about to be Taylor’s ally, rival, downfall, or the hot guy who walks into a scene and makes everyone’s problems significantly more complicated.

We do know that Bailey’s Taylor becomes involved with Dr Andrea Lathe, played by Natalie Portman, a doctor driven by “her own thirst for victory and power”. As the Tour de France approaches, Taylor is pushed toward “increasingly dark measures to protect his secret”. And somewhere in all that chaos will be Gage.
Honestly, putting these hotties in a movie together and then refusing to tell us what Gage is doing feels less like a casting announcement and more like psychological warfare.
Gage has already bounced between The White Lotus, Smile 2 and Overcompensating, so another deliciously messy project feels very on brand.
Production is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026, with no release date announced yet. Until then, we’ll be patiently waiting for someone to explain what he is actually doing in this movie. Preferably while showing us a photo.
