Ken has officially upgraded his résumé, and honestly, we are not mad about it. The iconic male Barbie doll now has a very rock-and-roll Kenbassador: legendary musician Lenny Kravitz.
Mattel released the Barbie Signature Kenbassadors Lenny Kravitz doll on September 17, giving the iconic male doll a decidedly hotter, more rock-star makeover as part of his 65th anniversary celebration.
And this is not your basic Ken. Inspired by Kravitz’s recent Blue Electric Light tour, the doll comes complete with his signature locs, tattoos, nose ring, sunglasses, and a bronze-colored mesh cowl-neck tank. Add boot-cut jeans, a studded belt, and boots, and suddenly Ken has a very different kind of concert wardrobe.

This Ken Is Giving Rock Star
Kravitz is just the second celebrity to be given this opportunity, following basketball star LeBron James, whose doll debuted in 2025. And honestly, who better for the iconic doll’s rock-star era?
The collection celebrates influential men across pop culture, and Kravitz checks plenty of boxes. The four-time Grammy winner has made his mark in various fields like music, fashion, acting, design, and production, selling more than 50 million records worldwide.
Basically, if Ken was going to have a rock-star era, Lenny Kravitz is a pretty solid choice.
Unfortunately, if you were hoping to casually add one to your cart, you may already be too late. Just hours after its release, Amazon’s direct inventory had reportedly sold out, although reseller listings were still available for more than $100. So fingers crossed they add to the inventory so you won’t have to end up buying from overpriced resellers.
Lenny Knows His LGBTQ+ Connection
There is also a little more to Kravitz’s new doll moment than the outfits.
In an interview with Esquire, the musician opened up about his longtime connection to the LGBTQ+ community, particularly during his years in West Hollywood in the 1980s.
“They raised me,” Kravitz told the publication, explaining that he spent that period around artists, musicians, hairstylists, and designers from the community.
For Kravitz, it was about being surrounded by creative people and finding a place where he could connect with other artists. And considering how deeply fashion, music, and queer culture have overlapped for decades, his story makes this particular Ken casting feel especially fitting.
Ken may have started out as Barbie’s boyfriend, but 65 years later, he has apparently entered his multi-hyphenate era. And with Lenny Kravitz as his latest Kenbassador, he is doing it with tattoos, mesh, and a whole lot of rock-star energy.
