Kit Connor could be heading from the rugby pitch straight into Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

Fresh reporting from Deadline suggests that Marvel Studios is eyeing Kit Connor to play Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men film. If the casting comes together, Connor would inherit one of Marvel’s most recognizable mutant roles, previously portrayed by James Marsden in the original X-Men trilogy and later by Tye Sheridan in Fox’s younger timeline. Marsden is also set to reprise his version of Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday, making the character’s return to the spotlight even more exciting.

While Marvel has yet to make the casting official, the timing couldn’t be more interesting because the studio has finally offered fans a clearer picture of when the X-Men will officially enter the MCU.

Marvel’s mutant future is taking shape

During Bilibili World 2026 in Shanghai, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared fresh details about the franchise’s roadmap while unveiling artwork for Avengers: Doomsday. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd, Feige confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars will be followed by a brand-new X-Men film.

Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled to arrive on December 27, 2027, with Feige saying the mutants will make their long-awaited MCU debut immediately afterward. While an exact release date remains under wraps, Marvel’s current plan points to the next X-Men movie arriving in 2028.

For longtime Marvel fans and comic readers, that announcement alone was enough to spark celebration. Add Connor’s name to the rumor mill, and suddenly the dream of a fresh generation of mutants feels much more real.

Nick Nelson has already proved he can handle action

Connor recently closed the book on one of television’s most beloved queer romances with Heartstopper Forever, giving fans an emotional farewell to Nick Nelson. But anyone wondering whether he can lead a superhero blockbuster only needs to look at his recent work.

In A24’s Warfare, Connor stepped into the boots of a Navy SEAL, showing he can convincingly tackle physically demanding, high-stakes action alongside Charles Melton. Interestingly, Melton has also been heavily rumored to play Beast, also known as Dr. Hank McCoy, in Marvel’s upcoming mutant reboot.

The rumored cast is already sounding impressive. Sadie Sink has reportedly been cast as Jean Grey, while Samara Weaving is believed to be Marvel’s choice for Emma Frost. If Connor joins as Cyclops, the core of the next X-Men team could already be falling into place.

One tiny Heartstopper reunion, please

Of course, LGBTQ fans have another reason to keep a close eye on these rumors.

Joe Locke has already entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Billy Maximoff, better known as Wiccan, following his breakout role in Agatha All Along. Although Cyclops and Wiccan are not known for sharing a major comic book storyline, fans are already imagining what it would be like to see the two Heartstopper stars reunite somewhere in Marvel’s ever-expanding universe.

Would a full crossover happen? Nobody knows. Would the internet collectively lose its mind over a single shared scene? Absolutely.

For now, Connor’s casting remains unconfirmed. But with Marvel officially preparing to usher in the age of mutants after Secret Wars, this rumor feels like one fans will be watching very closely.
