There are many ways for Jack Innanen to apologize for breaking a gay hockey fan’s heart. A sincere statement. A bouquet of flowers. Perhaps a handwritten note delivered directly to the nearest hockey rink.

Or, if you’re Jack Innanen, you simply offer to “show hole.” Well, excuse me? We like those kinds of apologies.

The Adults star has officially found a rather memorable way to make peace with fans who were hoping to see him in Heated Rivalry season two—and frankly, we appreciate the commitment to customer service.

From Potential Troy to Scheduling Heartbreak

Back in April, the Canadian actor confirmed that he had been in talks to join the hit gay hockey drama, prompting plenty of excitement among fans who thought he would be a perfect fit for misunderstood player Troy Barrett. Then came the heartbreak.

By June, it was revealed that Innanen had been offered an undisclosed role but ultimately had to turn it down because of scheduling issues. Exactly which character he had been discussing has not been revealed, while the role of Troy eventually went to Charlie Gillespie. So yes, there was a hockey-sized hole in our hearts.

Jack Innanen’s Apology Takes a Very Different Direction

Now, while promoting the second season of Adults, Innanen was asked by Entertainment Tonight to address the disappointment over “failing to deliver on a Heated Rivalry season two appearance”.

Innanen responded with a gracious message for the production and its fans.

“My message is, it is unfortunate. I hope that they have the most fun filming, I saw they just started filming. I love Heated Rivalry, I love a Canadian production. I hope they have the most fun. It didn’t work out, but Godspeed.”

A perfectly respectable apology.

And then his Adults co-star Amita Rao suggested something a little more visually persuasive: “posting a couple of shirtless pictures”. Innanen energetically agreed—but apparently shirtless wasn’t going to cut it.

He said:

“Yeah, I’ll be showing hole. I’ve been working on my glutes, so that’s my apology. I knew it was going there. That’s actually my message: I’m working on my glutes.”

And suddenly, scheduling conflicts feel like something we should all be able to forgive.

No Troy, But Apparently Plenty of Glutes

For now, though, his season-two appearance remains off the table—and his apology remains unusually well-defined.

He didn’t get to join the hockey boys. But he is working on his glutes. We have to respect the effort.
